Product Description
Product Description
The Victron Energy 2000W Isolation Transformer is essential for marine applications, ensuring the safety of your boat’s electrical system while preventing galvanic corrosion. Designed to provide reliable isolation between shore power and your vessel, this transformer enhances both protection and performance.
Key Features
- Power Capacity: 2000W
- Input Voltage: 115/230 VAC
- Soft Start: Prevents inrush current from blowing shore power fuses
- Isolation: Completely separates boat electrical system from shore ground
Enhanced Safety and Electrical Continuity
The Isolation Transformer eliminates any electrical continuity between AC shore power and your boat, ensuring a safe connection every time. Unlike standard on-shore installations where a fuse may blow or a Ground Fault Current Interrupter (GFCI) may trip during a short circuit or current leakage, this transformer maintains safety without reliance on galvanic isolators and polarity alarms.
Preventing Galvanic Corrosion
Galvanic corrosion is a significant threat to your boat’s metal components, occurring when two dissimilar metals are exposed to an electrically conducting fluid like seawater or freshwater. This transformer combats galvanic corrosion by:
- Isolating the boat’s electrical system from the shore power ground
- Protecting sacrificial anodes, shafts, propellers, and other metal parts
Without proper isolation, connecting the ground wire from shore-side supply can lead to rapid corrosion of metal parts, while omitting it creates unsafe electrical conditions where GFCIs and fuses cannot function correctly.
How It Works
The Isolation Transformer connects to the shore-side supply by feeding the primary side of the transformer with shore power and the secondary side to the boat’s electrical system. This setup ensures complete isolation from the shore ground. By connecting all metal parts to the neutral output on the secondary side, the system ensures that in the event of a short circuit, a GFCI will trip or a fuse will blow, maintaining safety.
