Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is critical for achieving a long-lasting bond with Sikaflex® 295 UV. Ensure that all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and other contaminants. The specific surface treatment will depend on the nature of the substrates involved. Refer to the latest Sika® Pre-treatment Chart for detailed guidelines. Always verify surface preparation methods through testing on the original substrates to ensure optimal adhesion.
Application Instructions
Sikaflex® 295 UV can be applied in environments ranging from 10°C to 35°C, though optimal performance is achieved between 15°C and 25°C. Note that lower temperatures may increase viscosity, so it is advisable to condition the adhesive at ambient temperature before use. For consistent bonding, apply the sealant in a triangular bead to ensure uniform thickness.
Application Tips:
- Condition the tube at room temperature prior to application for easier handling.
- Apply the adhesive evenly to achieve a consistent bond line.
- Maintain a triangular bead pattern to promote strength and uniformity.
Tooling & Finishing
Tooling and finishing should be performed within the product's skin time to ensure a smooth and professional finish. Use Sika® Tooling Agent N for optimal results. If alternative finishing agents are preferred, conduct compatibility tests beforehand to confirm suitability.
Removal and Cleanup
For uncured Sikaflex® 295 UV, use Sika® Remover-208 or a compatible solvent to clean tools and equipment. Once cured, the sealant must be removed mechanically. In case of skin contact, immediately wash hands and exposed skin with Sika® Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or an appropriate industrial hand cleaner with water. Avoid using solvents on the skin.
Overpainting
Sikaflex® 295 UV is suitable for painting both before and after the formation of the skin. To enhance adhesion when painting after curing begins, treat the joint surface with Sika® Aktivator-100 or Sika® Aktivator-205 before applying paint. If the painting process involves baking at temperatures above 80°C, allow the sealant to fully cure beforehand to achieve the best performance. Always perform preliminary paint tests under manufacturing conditions to ensure compatibility. Be aware that paint elasticity is typically lower than that of the sealant, which may cause cracking in joint areas.
