Applications
Sikaflex®-292 is ideal for creating structural joints in marine constructions that experience high dynamic stresses. It is particularly effective for bonding:
- Metals, especially aluminum and anodized finishes
- Metal primers and paint coatings (compatible with 2-component systems)
- Ceramic materials
- Plastics such as GRP (unsaturated polyester resin) and ABS
Before application, consult the manufacturer’s guidelines and conduct tests on original substrates to ensure compatibility and prevent stress cracking. Sikaflex®-292 is intended for use by experienced professionals who can perform necessary adhesion and material compatibility tests.
Surface Preparation
For optimal adhesion, surfaces must be:
- Clean
- Dry
- Free from grease, oil, and dust
Proper surface treatment is essential for a long-lasting bond and varies depending on the substrate. Refer to the latest Sika® Pre-treatment Chart for specific surface preparation recommendations. Always verify surface preparation methods through testing on original substrates.
Application Guidelines
Sikaflex®-292 can be applied in ambient temperatures ranging from 10°C to 40°C. However, the optimal temperature for both the substrate and sealant is between 15°C and 25°C to ensure ideal reactivity and application properties. Note that lower temperatures will increase the viscosity of the adhesive, making application more challenging. To facilitate easy application, condition the adhesive at ambient temperature before use.
Tooling & Finishing
Tooling and finishing should be performed within the sealant's skin time to achieve the best results. It is recommended to use Sika® Tooling Agent N for this purpose. If alternative finishing agents are considered, ensure they are tested for suitability and compatibility prior to application.
Removal Instructions
For uncured Sikaflex®-292, use Sika® Remover-208 or another appropriate solvent to remove the adhesive from tools and equipment. Once cured, Sikaflex®-292 can only be removed mechanically. In case of contact with hands or exposed skin, wash immediately with Sika® Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Avoid using solvents on the skin.
Important Note
The domestically produced Sikaflex®-292 is not IMO certified.
