• Floating Carbon Flange: Bored larger than the shaft diameter, allowing it to compensate for misalignment and absorb vibrations.
• Stainless Steel Rotor: Compresses the bellows before securing the collar to the shaft with set-screws, maintaining consistent contact between seal faces and compensating for thrust from the propeller.

Maintenance and Longevity

Regular Inspection Required: As with any rubber hose below the waterline, the PSS bellows should be inspected periodically for signs of wear, aging, or chemical deterioration. PYI recommends replacing the bellows every six years as part of preventative maintenance. During bellows replacement, it is also advisable to replace the o-rings and set screws in the stainless steel rotor.

Note: In environments where non-sealed batteries emit sulfuric acid vapor, increased inspection frequency is necessary. Sulfuric acid vapor accelerates rubber deterioration, as does the presence of an ozonater.
