Maintenance and Replacement
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and efficiency of your marine engine. Follow these guidelines to ensure your impeller operates at peak performance:
- Annual Replacement: Replace all impellers at least once a year, or sooner if your engine is subjected to heavy use.
- Preventative Maintenance: Adhering to a regular replacement schedule helps prevent unexpected pump failures and costly repairs.
Installation Tips
Replacing your impeller is straightforward with the right tools and precautions:
- Start by removing the end cover screws of your pump.
- Use a Jabsco Impeller Removal Tool or channel lock pliers to grip and remove the impeller from the hub. Avoid using screwdrivers, as they can damage the pump body and cause leaks.
- Always grease new impellers before installation to facilitate easier insertion into the pump bore and provide added protection during the initial priming.
- After installing the new impeller, replace the gasket and end cover to complete the installation.
Remember to carry spare impellers on board to handle any emergencies promptly.
